Leading food and drink technology organisation teams up with MTC

The UK’s leading food and drink research and technology organisation has teamed up with the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in a move aimed at improving the technical capabilities of the food and drink industry.

The MTC has established a joint partnership with Cotswolds-based Campden BRI, an organisation which specialises in the practical application of technical excellence to support the food, drink and allied industries through analysis, research, technical innovation, knowledge and operational support.

The link-up means that MTC and Campden BRI scientists and engineers will be working together on ground-breaking food and drink technology projects.

The MTC already has major food and drink representation in its membership, including Greencore, Unilever and Sainsbury’s.

Campden BRI, based in Chipping Campden, provides technical, legislative and scientific support and research to the food and drinks industry worldwide – with a comprehensive “farm to fork” range of services covering agri-food production, analysis and testing, processing and manufacturing, safety, training and technical information services. Members and clients benefit from industry-leading facilities for analysis, product and process development, and sensory and consumer studies, which include a specialist brewing and wine division.

MTC chief executive Dr Clive Hickman said he was pleased that the two organisations had come together for the benefit of the food production, manufacturing and processing sectors.

“We now have several members involved in food technology, food processing and food packaging. Together we are exploring new technologies and production efficiency. Campden BRI is been an industry leader with nearly 400 scientists and staff working in more than 3,000 sq metres of laboratories, 3,500 sq meters of pilot plant facilities and 800 sq metres of training facilities. We look forward to working with Campden BRI’s engineers and experts here at the MTC,” he said.

The MTC opened in 2011 and is a partnership between some of the UK’s major global manufacturers and three forward-thinking universities: Birmingham, Nottingham and Loughborough as well as TWI Ltd.

The MTC aims to provide a competitive environment to bridge the gap between university-based research and the development of innovative manufacturing solutions, in line with the Government’s manufacturing strategy. The MTC is part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, supported by Innovate UK.
