EMMA SANDERS, ENGINEERING APPRENTICE

What do you do?

I am currently a second year apprentice at the MTC, specialising in automation.

Within the automation theme, we learn about all the different aspects of automation, such as programmable logic controllers, using Arduinos, learning about hydraulics and pneumatics as well as many other topics.

How did you get there?

Before my apprenticeship, I studied AS Levels at sixth form. I had always had an interest in engines and cars, as I wanted to learn about how they work and how to fix them. Because of this, I volunteered in a garage for almost three years before the apprenticeship.

After completing my AS Levels, I applied for the apprenticeship programme, as engineering was definitely the career for me.

The MTC is an unparalleled environment for a young engineer wishing to break into the industry. The work that we are doing here today will shape the manufacturing industry for years to come. To be part of that is not only exciting but a real privilege.
