KERRY SMITH, ENGINEERING APPRENTICE

What do you do?

I am a 2nd year apprentice specialising in automation. I still attend college one a day release basis, completing a BTC Level 3 in Engineering.

I get to work with electronics, pneumatics & hydraulics, robotics, Arduinos and PLCs.

I am also taking part in a competition to design a habitation module to be used on the moon.

How did you get there?

After completing A-Levels, I was unsure of what career to go into. I worked in retail for seven years as a Customer Relations Team Leader. Part of my role involved project work, some of this involved engineering and this is what sparked my interest.

I then applied to the MTC, and after being successful in the assessment day and interview process, I started the apprenticeship.
