Engineer Profile: Bethan Smith
BETHAN SMITH, ADVANCED RESEARCH ENGINEER
What do you do?
I work in the Non-Conventional Machining theme focusing on post-processing for additive parts.
I manage and work on multiple projects involving state-of-the-art reviews, experimental trials and results analysis.
I also propose new project ideas and research new technologies that we can use at the MTC to solve customer problems.
How did you get there?
I enjoyed maths at school but wanted to do a more applied subject at university, so I chose to do a mechanical engineering degree.
As part of my degree, I did a year in industry with Rolls-Royce. As part of this placement, I was seconded to the MTC, which gave me experience of the company.
When I graduated I applied to join the MTC as a research engineer, as I loved the idea of working on a range of different technology areas with an industrial focus.
