Paul joined the MTC with 35 years of engineering experience, much of it in the automotive industry, with the last 11 years as Chief Executive of the UK Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA). The VCA is part of the UK Governments Department for Transport, responsible for the approval and certification of new vehicles, systems and components. Paul internationalised the VCA, which now has offices covering North and South America, Europe, India, China, Japan and Asia-Pacific.

Paul’s engineering career started at Jaguar. He became a Motorsport engineer at Pirelli, then worked for Land Rover in Chassis Engineering and Project Management and ultimately became Chief Engineer for Defender and Military Products. Paul joined Ricardo and led their Vehicle Engineering division. He worked on a wide range of vehicles, from utility to luxury, small and sporting, also trucks and buses.

Paul has always been passionate about engineering, and has served on several committees for the IMechE, Oxford Brookes and Bath Universities.
