HTRC Manufacturing Engineer (Project Engineer)

As a Manufacturing Engineer based at our High Temperature Research Centre (HTRC) in Ansty, you will conduct research and improvement activities related to the design and manufacture of turbine components. The HTRC is a collaboration between the University of Birmingham and Rolls-Royce and is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for investment casting, machining and advanced metrology of single crystal components.

The Centre has three key aims:

  1. Design & make of turbine components for engine development projects
  2. Develop novel design and manufacturing techniques to enable future design styles and manufacturing technologies
  3. Accelerate cost reduction and casting/machining yield improvement activities for Turbine components.

You will work within our co-located design and manufacturing engineering teams within the HTRC and in close collaboration with a wide range of researchers from the relevant academic fields.

The candidate will be required to :

  • Influence in a positive way following the MTC “Right Way”.
  • Be degree qualified or demonstrate equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience
  • Have sound understanding of manufacturing engineering and component engineering principles
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge of turbine components and/or process knowledge associated with investment casting and/or machining of turbine components
  • Be equipped with a strong functional skill set (problem solving, programme management, change control, risk management and budgetary control)
  • Recognised as a self-driven, proactive team player with strong communication skills

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) was established in 2010 as an independent Research & Technology Organisation (RTO) with the objective of bridging the gap between academia and industry – often referred to as ‘the valley of death’.

It represents one of the largest public sector investments in UK manufacturing and, after four years of planning and a 16 month build, the facility opened at Ansty Park in Coventry at the end of 2011.

In December 2011, there were 16 industrial members, 44 staff and just a few key pieces of equipment in the ‘workshop’.

Over the following seven years the MTC’s rapid growth has seen the expansion of our campus with the construction of three more facilities, including the opening of the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre and the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing.

Our role has also increased to cover not only R&D but also Training, Advanced Manufacturing Management and Factory Design.

We now have over 700 talented employees working with us.

During this time we have helped hundreds of companies across a range of industries and over 100 of them have become members of the MTC.

Reference Checks and Security Checks (where applicable)

Due to the nature of our business, all employment is subject to satisfactory references being obtained, attainment of either a SC (Security Check), Disclosure Scotland Criminal Record Check or Foreign Police Check (whichever is applicable depending on duration of UK residency) and, as applicable, a medical assessment. Access to US technical data by employees requires prior Trade Control function approval. Clearance must be carried out against all applicable US export control authorisations.
