Digitalising Manufacturing 2019

Digitalising Manufacturing 2019

Making Digital a Reality

After a sell-out conference in 2018, we are delighted to announce the dates for Digitalising Manufacturing Conference 2019. Join us on the 4th & 5th November 2019 for our fifth annual conference, and gain the know-how you need from worldwide leading experts.

Over the last four years the Digitalising Manufacturing Conference has grown to become one of the key dates in the manufacturing calendar, with the emphasis evolving from technology through collaboration to people and the concept that digitalisation is not an end goal but a journey.

Join us on the 4th & 5th November 2019 for our fifth annual conference, and gain the know-how you need from worldwide leading experts.

This year we're making digital a reality. We're partnered with Made Smarter to bring you a two-day conference that will address international collaboration opportunities, national policy as well as practical knowledge to drive industrial digitalisation from within UK value chains. Day one will focus on policy, international, national and industry perspectives, while on day two we'll look at moving forwards and putting plans into action - addressing the 'why?', 'what?' and 'how?' questions surrounding digital manufacturing.

We’ll review the continued progress of the Made Smarter initiative and other mechanisms, and we’ll be keeping the international aspect of the conference too – focusing on what we can learn from countries such as Germany and Sweden.

This year our focus is on making digital a reality. So new for Digitalising Manufacturing 2019 we will be introducing the MTC’s Digital Experience. Held on day two of the conference, the entire ground floor of our venue will be transformed into our largest digital manufacturing exhibition yet. The digital experience will be split into zones focusing on our four core day two topics:

  • Smart connected factory
  • Connected and versatile supply chain
  • Design, test, make
  • Adaptable, flexible manufacturing operations and skills

The packed two-day programme will also feature insightful panel discussions; interactive workshops; innovation pitches and digital manufacturing demonstrators - making this the 'must-attend' conference on this topic in the UK.

Innovation Pitches: Applications Now Closed

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is giving entrepreneurs, technologists and inventors the chance to pitch their innovative ideas on factory digitalisation to the UK's manufacturing decision makers at our Digitalising Manufacturing Conference on 4th & 5th November 2019.

Workshops - in detail

Connectivity & Automation -
(Doug Wood - MTConnect / AMT, Cristina Data - Director Spectrum Information & Analysis, OFCOM , Darren Pyke - Hilsonic, Roger Singleton - AML Sheffield) Automating data collection from manufacturing shop floors requires overcoming a number of challenges directly associated with adequate implementation of data sources, transportation means and compatibility. This demands key considerations on security, safety, standardisation and optimised data management. Effective deployment of manufacturing information networks and systems could enable implementation of a wide range of digital applications, and to be successful, compliance with manufacturing and business constraints is necessary. This workshop covers successful industrial use cases overcoming connectivity challenges and discusses on standards, cybersecurity and the innovative opportunities coming with the emergence of 5G.

Visualise & Realise -
(Jacob Turner - Bowman, Jerry Sutton - Incremental Engineering Limited, Maryam Qureshi - HP MJF Digital Manufacturing Business)

Join to discuss how manufacturers can gain the biggest benefits from utilising 3D printing - such as:

• Short lead times - from weeks or days to a matter of hours
• Low-cost production matched with specific features such as chemical resistance and fluid tightness
• Design freedom for lightweight, complex yet robust manufacturing aids with fine and small features

The workshop will address current manufacturing limitations in companies and help how to find bespoke and cost-effective solutions to their problems. Real world experiences from manufacturing companies will encourage the use of Multi Jet Fusion technology to innovate by designing for additive manufacturing.
The workshop will provide you with the knowledge on how and why you should adopt this technology to enhance your manufacturing processes, and lower your overall costs along with real life case studies from a range of different sectors where this has happened.

Data / Value from data -
(Toby Maw - IIIQ-D, Desi Bacheva - HiETA, Rob Taylor - Pym & Wildsmith)

Data is the proverbial new oil in general and Industry 4.0 is all about industrial data, from start to finish. Obviously, when we speak about data, we mean actionable insights and data driven intelligence, this is where Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence (or Augmented Intelligence) comes into picture. The key barriers to getting insights from data is around not having appropriate skills, lack of disconnect between domain experts & data scientists, not having relevant data, policies and regulations, to name a few. This workshop discusses successfully industrial deployments of data analytics and opportunities of overcoming some of the challenges highlighted above.

Work Force and Work Environments -
(Sam Green - AK Industries, Charles Joel - Gardner Denver, Christian Silvasti - ProduktionsLyftet, Theo Saville - CloudNC)
(Moderated by Richard Guy)

To be successful in any kind of change programme, it isn’t just about implementing new technology or processes. Digitalisation shouldn’t be any different. Change management, culture change and having your team involved are crucial to digitalisation. This workshop will features businesses who have gone through or are going through such projects, exploring what challenges they have had and solutions to overcome the barriers.
