Tim Jones

Provost and Vice-Principal, University of Birmingham

MTC FOUNDER REPRESENTATIVE

Professor Tim Jones joined the University of Birmingham as Provost and Vice-Principal in 2016. Previously, he held a number of senior leadership positions at the University of Warwick, including Interim Provost, Pro-Vice-Chancellor [Science, Engineering and Medicine] and Pro-Vice-Chancellor [Research, Knowledge Transfer and Business Engagement].

As a member of University Executive Board, Tim is responsible for leading both academic resources and strategic operational management. He is accountable for the University’s planning and budgeting processes, including the capital plan and staffing strategy and policies, and for leading major institutional projects across the full breadth of University functions in order to advance and deliver the University Strategy.

Tim obtained his PhD in 1988 from the Chemistry Department at the University of Liverpool. After spending over 16 years at Imperial College London, during which he took on several academic leadership roles, he moved to the Chemistry Department at the University of Warwick [2007] as part of the University's strategic investment in advanced materials research.

Tim is currently a member of the Manufacturing Technology Centre [MTC] Board, the Wales Science and Innovation Advisory Council, and was previously a member of Council at the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council [EPSRC] and a founding Board member of the Alan Turing Institute.

It has been a life changing experience to work with MTC since my graduation. The chance to work on leading projects with nice and intelligent colleagues in a modern R&D environment has been great. I don't regret joining!
