MTC scale up

Yourbreakthroughproductmade

Your breakthrough product works. But is it ready to scale?

Moving from a developed product to repeatable, scalable manufacturing is where many high potential businesses struggle. Whether building early production capability or scaling output, investment is often committed too early, and issues can surface once scale is already in motion – driving cost, delay and rework.

Pressure from investors, customers or market opportunity can force businesses to scale before their production route is proven. The result can be quality failures, inefficiency, safety incidents or costly rework - all of which undermine confidence at the point it matters most.

We can support scale-up in two ways:

1.   Our Scale-Up Readiness Assessment helps you define the right route forward and make confident, de-risked scale-up decisions by understanding your current maturity and defining what needs to happen next to scale.

2.   If you’re ready to move straight into delivery – we’ll work with you to implement the right solution through Direct Delivery. Our specialist services - from product design and factory development to supply chain
transformation and workforce development - provide focused, outcome-led delivery turning plans
into scalable, real-world results.

It’s not about slowing momentum — it’s about accelerating the right decision.

Scale-Up Readiness Assessment

What Is the Scale-Up Readiness Assessment?

We help you understand how ready your product is to scale - by assessing both its technical maturity and manufacturing readiness.
Using established Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) and Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL), we provide an independent view of where you are today, how aligned your product and production capability are, and what needs to happen next to move towards scalable manufacturing.  We also help you prioritise the areas that will unlock the greatest progress – so you can focus effort, investment and resource where it will have the most impact.

Who it’s for

Teams preparing to scale production who:

  • Want an independent view of how ready their product is for production
  • Need to understand how technology maturity aligns with manufacturing capability
  • Are preparing to secure funding, customers or internal approval
  • Are unsure where to focus effort to move from development into production
  • Need a clear starting point before committing to scale-up decisions

What you get

Clear visibility of your readiness to scale and what to do next. You leave with a validated view of your product and manufacturing readiness, and a clear plan to move forward. Independent assessment of TRL and MRL levels — understand where you are today

  • Alignment between product and manufacturing maturity — identify critical gaps
  • Prioritised improvement actions – focus effort on the areas that will unlock the greatest progress
  • Clear progression plan — defined steps to move to the next level
  • Stronger foundation for funding and scaling decisions — grounded in evidence

This acts as the starting point – giving you the clarity to move into delivery with confidence.

Happy manufacturer

How it works

A proven five stage approach:

  • Readiness assessment: Assess your product against Technology and Manufacturing Readiness Levels
  • Gap analysis: Identify gaps between technical development and production capability
  • Target definition: Define target readiness levels aligned to your scale-up ambitions
  • Action planning: Prioritise the actions that will unlock the greatest progress
  • Output: Provide a clear plan to progress towards scalable production

It’s intentionally time-bound – typical delivery time from 3 weeks; accelerating delivery while still standing up to technical scrutiny and investor challenge

Scale-Up Delivery

Beyond Scale-Up Readiness – Direct to Delivery

For organisations ready to move directly into delivery, we provide a focused, expert led route to scale, applying proven methodologies, advanced engineering expertise and hands on implementation to deliver measurable improvements in performance, cost and capacity, either as part of an assessment led approach or independently where the requirements are already well understood.

Once the right route is defined — through the Scale-Up Readiness Assessment or directly — we support implementation through these specialist services:

Success stories

Scale-Up in action

We’ve helped high potential businesses across Automotive, Agri-tech and advanced technology turn working products into scalable, repeatable manufacturing — through assessment led and direct delivery programmes — validating production routes, proving feasibility and scaling with confidence.

ELM Mobility — scaling without guessing

The challenge

ELM needed to understand how a new product would scale — and prove production feasibility before committing to scale-up manufacturing at volumes up to 10,000 units per year.

The outcome

  • Assessed design and manufacturing options for scale to 10,000 units per year
  • Identified the volume thresholds that trigger a change in manufacturing approach, avoiding early lock in to the wrong process
  • Delivered a clear manufacturing roadmap and cost confidence, enabling informed budgeting and credible investor conversations

Hypermotive – unlocking scale beyond capacity

The challenge

Hypermotive needed to expand capacity and improve efficiency – while de-risking scale-up manufacturing and avoiding unnecessary cost or complexity.

The outcome

  • Optimised production and manufacturing processes to reduce time per unit
  • Achieved lower unit production costs through improved design and manufacturing decisions
  • Enabled scale to be delivered within existing production runs rather than requiring new facilities
  • Implemented 29% of recommended improvements directly into production, delivering significant cost savings
