Power & Energy

The UK energy industries contributed 2.6% of Gross Value Added to the UK economy in 2019, with 177,000 people directly employed in the sector, and more indirectly. (ONS, 2020)

The low carbon and renewable energy economy (LCREE) has grown its contribution to the economy, achieving a turnover of £47bn in 2018. (ONS, 2020)

There are a broad range of challenges facing the sector, across power generation, transmission, distribution and end use, from improving our existing infrastructure and running safe and reliable networks to key long term activities, such as decommissioning in the Oil & Gas and Civil Nuclear sectors, delivering new and advanced nuclear power, developing low carbon hydrogen production capacity, enhancing offshore wind power development and enabling a rapid energy transition to Net Zero.
