REE Automotive Brings in MTC Experts as it Prepares for Production

With a bold vision and an ambitious timeline, REE was determined to take its cutting-edge electric vehicle from early prototype to full production to achieve this they turned to MTC's design and process development experts.

The highly skilled MTC team brought their extensive experience to the table, working closely with REE to refine their engineering development and continuous improvement goals.

The Challenge

A major challenge for REE in bringing their new product to market was to understand the level of investment needed and the risks associated with installing enough production capacity. They also needed to understand the impact of ramping up production on factory layout, capital equipment and labour. In addition, REE wanted modern, digitally connected manufacturing operations and cutting-edge processes for robust, efficient and scalable manufacturing.

MTC's Solution

MTC deployed its broad range of capabilities within the PLENUM (Pilot Line Electrified corNer Unit asseMbly) project, ranging from Design for X and Process Development to Factory Design and Supply Chain Development boosting technology and manufacturing readiness of REE’s LCV platform.

The Outcome

Collaboration with MTC through PLENUM has provided a valuable opportunity to showcase best practices in product and process design as well as modern, digitally connected manufacturing operations, enabling REE to upskill its organisation in readiness for the launch of a new product impacting global markets and the UK's electrified low carbon vehicle industry, and go from prototype to pre-production in just two and a half years.

Benefits to the Client
  • Using cutting-edge techniques and processes developed by MTC, REE accelerated the journey to become a global leader in zero emissions light commercial vehicle technology.
  • Working with MTC has validated cost, ergonomic and quality improvements and has informed REE's understanding of the requirement and impacts of ramping up production, demonstrating commercial readiness to stakeholders and investors.
  • Support from MTC in process risk mitigation - an essential activity to carry out before going into volume production of road-going vehicles.
