In 2019 the UK food & drink industry was the biggest manufacturing sector in the country by turnover with over 440,000 people employed across every region and nation of the UK. Manufactured food and drink contributed almost £29 billion to the economy. (FDF)
In addition, the industry had a turnover of more than £104 billion, accounting for almost 20% of total UK manufacturing. (FDF)
The sector has been severely impacted by the trilemma of Brexit, the migrant labour cap and the pandemic increasing the demand for paperwork, creating supply chain challenges and highlighting the sector’s reliance on manual labour.
