Sustainability

WE HAVE A CLEAR VISION - TO CREATE A SIGNIFICANT, POSITIVE IMPACT ON SOCIETY.

MTC plan to reach Net Zero greenhouse gas (CO2e) emissions by 2041 in a sustainable manner considering the whole value chain.

Our strategic approach is to reduce operational emissions, scope 1 & 2 in a shorter time frame with the aim to encompass all 3 scopes by 2041. This will be done in line with science based targets (Science Based Targets, n.d.). Neutralisation measures (offsetting) will only be used if necessary.

Starting with fully flexible working allowing people to work remotely averaging 2 days a week onsite per employee will present a marked reduction in commuting carbon footprint going forward. Working from home emission factors will have to be accounted for in future.

Decreasing our indirect impact through supply will be twofold:

  • Engaging with our supply chain to commit
to their own Net Zero journey
  • Re-use strategy onsite which will also
    contribute to waste reduction

By March 2030 we will have reduced the organisation's CO2e emissions by 75% and through project initiatives and supply chain engagement we will have enabled reductions across industry.

MTC

Our emissions are measured in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) to account for not only carbon dioxide including other greenhouse gases such as methane, nitrous oxide or hydrofluorocarbons as well.

Our total CO2e emissions are often referred to as our carbon footprint.

Sustainability

Top level plan

The MTC aim to reach carbon neutrality as defined by PAS 2060 (BSI, 2014) by 2023. The aim is to achieve this through reduction and mitigation measure using offsets only where necessary. As shown in Figure 1 this only addresses our scope 1 and 2 emissions.

MTC aims to be fully Net Zero ahead of 2041, as defined by the West Midland Pledge (West Midlands Combined Authority, 2021). Net Zero is defined as including our scope 3 emissions.
