Cyber Security
Cyber‑crime and industrial espionage threaten organisations of every size. From ransomware to IP leakage, the risks span the office and the shopfloor. MTC helps you raise resilience across your business—prioritising impact, compliance and confidence.
Our capability
Cyber threats are escalating and no business is immune.
Cyber-crime and industrial espionage are among the most serious threats facing UK industry. From ransomware attacks - many so severe the NCSC and NCA are actively involved - to the theft of intellectual property, the risks are real and growing. Start-ups and established manufacturers alike need robust strategies to stay secure while embracing digital transformation. At MTC, we provide practical ways to help you innovate with confidence:
Enterprise Cyber Security
Our Enterprise Cyber Security services help organisations build resilience against cyber incidents. We simplify complex standards, frameworks, and legislation, creating clear roadmaps to strengthen governance, improve detection, and minimise disruption across your business.
Industrial Cyber Security
As you adopt Industry 4.0 technologies - automation, robotics, connected systems, we ensure your operations remain safe and secure. Our unique cybersecurity assessment environment allows you to bring your equipment into a controlled 'sandpit' that mirrors your manufacturing setup. Here, our experts identify vulnerabilities, perform RF spectral analysis in a Faraday cage, and provide a detailed, IT-ready mitigation plan - helping you protect IP and minimise downtime.
Secure by Design
Security should start at concept stage. Our Secure by Design pathway helps you embed best practice into product development, ensuring compliance with legislation such as the UK PSTI Act and giving customers confidence in your connected products.

Funding support
The UK Government’s Secure Innovation Security Review Scheme offers early-stage tech firms (under 250 employees) part-funded security reviews worth £3,000. Organisations pay £500, with £2,500 covered by HMG. Reviews by NPSA and NCSC-approved experts assess governance, cyber security, and supply chain risks, helping protect IP and boost investor confidence. Apply now to secure your innovation.

Enterprise Cyber Security
Protecting your organisation from cyber incidents is no easy task. Adversaries exploit unexpected vulnerabilities, and even with existing measures, confidence in your defences is critical. A layered ‘defence-in-depth’ strategy is essential, as no single solution guarantees complete protection. Beyond technical measures, businesses must prepare for evolving compliance requirements, including the forthcoming UK Cyber Security and Resilience Bill expected in 2025. Guidance is plentiful, but knowing where to start can be overwhelming.
MTC can help you understand the cyber landscape, conduct gap analyses, and set clear priorities to strengthen resilience. For suppliers to critical sectors such as CNI, defence, aerospace, and government, demonstrating cyber assurance is increasingly vital, with certifications like Cyber Essentials Plus (CE+) and DCC, alongside supplier questionnaires, becoming standard in procurement. Building robust cyber resilience is not just about security—it’s a strategic necessity for future success.
MTC aims to provide practical, manufacturing‑ready cyber security improvements that protect operations, safeguard IP and build customer confidence.

Cyber Resilience Assessment (CRA)
If your organisation has achieved a good level of cyber resilience, MTC’s Cyber Resilience Assessment (CRA) can provide an independent review of your defences. Developed with the NCSC and aligned to its Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF), the CRA identifies gaps and improvement areas, helping you strengthen security and maintain confidence in your protective measures.

Cyber Security Technologies
MTC, in collaboration with partners, has developed advanced cyber security test beds at our Coventry and Liverpool facilities. These environments showcase a wide range of technologies designed to safeguard industrial systems, including those in critical national infrastructure (CNI). The test beds provide practical demonstrations of solutions that enhance resilience and protect against evolving cyber threats.
Convincing our senior management about cyber security priorities has always been challenging, the CRA outcome helped us to obtain support from our board to improve our cyber resilience

Industrial Cyber Security
Manufacturing and critical national infrastructure are rapidly adopting digital technologies such as robotics, process control, and Industry 4.0 to boost automation and productivity. While these innovations enable benefits like machine health monitoring and quality control, many organisations hesitate due to limited digital skills and concerns about cyber risks. Despite efforts to minimise attack surfaces, shop floors remain vulnerable, often through shadow IT or outdated systems.
Connected manufacturing introduces further challenges, including short technology lifecycles and obsolete embedded operating systems. Industrial cyber priorities—safety, continuity, product integrity, and IP protection - demand approaches beyond traditional office security. MTC supports organisations by designing secure operational networks, configuring industrial equipment, and recommending protective technologies. We also assess connected equipment for hidden data streams, reducing IP leakage risks. By integrating digital technologies into secure networks, MTC enables monitoring and analysis to ensure data security and resilience in industrial environments.

Secure by Design
Development of cyber-compliant products is essential as more industrial and consumer products include digital or smart functionality. Recent legislation mandates best practices, banning default passwords, requiring vulnerability disclosure, and ensuring timely security patches. Industrial customers also expect secure installation and compliance support throughout a product’s lifecycle.
MTC helps companies adopt a secure-by-design approach, reducing vulnerabilities through industry best practice and penetration testing. We are also developing an evaluation methodology aligned with NCSC’s Principle-Based Assurance (PBA), enabling certification via NCSC-approved Cyber Resilience Test Facilities (CRTF), ensuring compliance and building trust in your products.

Cybersecurity is just one element of our Digital Manufacturing offering. We deliver cutting-edge solutions including Digital Twins, automation, and data-driven technologies to help businesses innovate securely and efficiently. FAQs
Your questions answered
Are manufacturing machines secure?
Manufacturing equipment – or operational technology (OT) - has increasingly digitalised to enable the Industry 4.0 transformation. However, the security of this equipment is extremely variable between sectors, vendors, and machines. In the worst cases, machines have multiple known vulnerabilities of the highest severity, and no capacity to be patched. This presents a substantial risk to the most confidential geometry and quality information about your products, as well as risking the safety of operators. While disconnecting equipment provides protection, it also deprives your business of all the benefits of a connected intelligent process.
The MTC can assess the security of manufacturing equipment, and recommend architectures for securely connecting vulnerable equipment, evaluating threats, and allowing safe connections.
