Natascha Engel is the founder and Chief Executive of Palace Yard, a Westminster think tank that convenes MPs, ministers and senior civil servants with industry leaders and academics to explore complex policy challenges on impediments to growth in the UK and to focus on strategies around the energy transition, circular economy, net zero and manufacturing.
Natasha was elected to Parliament in 2005 and served as the Member of Parliament for North East Derbyshire until 2017. She was the inaugural chair of the Backbench Business select committee winning the Dod’s Backbencher of the Year award in 2014 and the Spectator’s Parliamentarian of the Year in 2015. She was later elected as Deputy Speaker in the House of Commons.
Before being elected to Parliament, Natascha represented the link between the Labour Party and trade union movement and co-ordinated the successful trade union political fund ballots.
After Parliament, Natascha was appointed the Government’s Shale Gas Commissioner before joining policy and opinion research agency Public First where she established the Energy and Infrastructure practice.
She has a first class degree in Modern Languages from King’s College in London, and a Masters in Technical and Specialised Translation.
