AURA is a specialist accelerator programme designed to help ambitious UK automation and robotics start-ups validate, develop and commercialise innovative technologies. With over £700,000 of support available, participating companies gain access to the Manufacturing Technology Centre's (MTC) world-class facilities, technical expertise and engineering support to help overcome the challenges of scaling complex hardware and software solutions. Alongside tailored technical guidance, businesses can benefit from workshops, networking opportunities and introductions to manufacturers, investors and the High Value Manufacturing Catapult network. Unlike traditional business accelerators, AURA focuses on providing practical engineering expertise and industrial connections, helping companies reduce development risk, strengthen market readiness and accelerate commercial growth.

How to apply
Stage 1: Initial application
Complete and submit a Part One application form. Applications will be assessed against the programme's eligibility and selection criteria, with the highest-scoring companies invited to progress to the next stage.
Stage 2: Detailed application and assessment
Shortlisted companies will be invited to:
- Complete a Part Two application form
- Attend a one-hour scoping meeting with MTC to discuss their technology, growth ambitions and support requirements
- Present their innovation and business opportunity to an independent assessment panel
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of technical, automation, robotics and commercial experts. Successful applicants will receive an offer of support and progress into the project scoping and contracting phase.
Companies that reach Part Two but are not selected for the cohort will be invited to attend a one-day Engineering Edge Workshop, providing practical expert support to help address a key technical or business challenge.

No. AURA does not provide direct grant funding. Participants receive a tailored package of support worth over £100,000, including access to MTC expertise, facilities, engineering resources, workshops and industry networks.
