How MTC helped Innvotek accelerate the Amphibian™ platform towards scalable deployment
Innvotek is developing an advanced marine robotics platform to transform how critical infrastructure is inspected and maintained. Operating in offshore and subsea environments, its’ Amphibian™ platform reduces reliance on high-risk manual intervention while delivering high-quality asset data in hard-to-reach or hazardous locations.
Through the Automation and Robotics Technology Accelerator (AURA) programme, Innvotek partnered with MTC to refine the platform for real-world deployment. The collaboration helped to improve performance, simplify the product design and accelerate the transition towards a scalable, manufacturable solution.
The work with MTC is allowing us to understand how our technology scales… it’s sped up the whole process of getting to where we need to be.

Project Challenges
While Amphibian™ had demonstrated strong technical capability, scaling it for consistent deployment and production introduced significant challenges around weight reduction, structural optimisation and overall product design and performance.
The system needed to operate reliably in harsh offshore and subsea environments while becoming easier to deploy, maintain and manufacture at scale. It also had to deliver high-quality inspection across complex infrastructure, including offshore wind, marine vessels and energy assets.
Across these sectors, demand is growing for safer, more efficient alternatives to manual inspection in hazardous environments. For Innvotek, this meant transforming a proven solution into a robust, scalable solution ready for real-world use.
MTC’s Solution
MTC worked in close collaboration with Innvotek to transform Amphibian™ into a scalable, manufacturable platform.
A structured design evaluation programme combined technical analysis, engineering reviews and workshops, aligned to Innvotek’s technical and commercial priorities. The focus was on simplifying the design, improving performance and enabling readiness for scale.
MTC’s support included:
- Design evaluation to remove inefficiencies and unlock performance gains
- Design for manufacture guidance to enable a simpler, scalable architecture
- System-level optimisation of locomotion and motor configuration
- Specialist input on inspection strategy (NDT) and early consideration of UKCA/CE requirements

It almost felt like an extended part of the Innvotek team… it was very much tailored to exactly what we wanted out of it.

The Outcome
MTC’s support delivered measurable improvements across performance, manufacturability and design - creating a clear pathway towards commercial deployment.
Key outcomes included:
- Improved locomotion through optimised wheel attachment design, reducing system weight by approximately 20%
- Demonstrated significant payload capability for inspection tasks
- Simplified the product design by removing redundant features
- Strengthened understanding of manufacturing and supply chain requirements
Benefits to the Client
As a result, Innvotek has greater clarity, confidence and momentum in preparing Amphibian™ for deployment.
Innvotek can now:
- Improve performance while reducing weight and complexity
- Enhance reliability in harsh marine environments
- Accelerate progress towards scalable production
- Deliver higher-quality inspection data and asset insight
- Navigate regulatory and certification pathways with greater confidence
- Strengthen credibility with investors and stakeholders
When investors see a product that’s been validated by an organisation like MTC, that gives them more comfort.
