MTC has been awarded the Gold Award under the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), the highest honour available to organisations that demonstrate exceptional support for the Armed Forces community.
The award recognises employers that go above and beyond in their commitment to supporting veterans, reservists, service leavers, cadet force adult volunteers and military families, while actively promoting the value they bring to the workplace.
MTC has long recognised the significant contribution that members of the Armed Forces community make to UK industry. From leadership and teamwork to resilience, adaptability and problem-solving, the skills developed through military service align closely with the needs of advanced manufacturing, technology and engineering organisations.
The Gold Award reflects MTC's ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive environment where Armed Forces personnel, veterans and their families can thrive. This includes supporting reservists in balancing their military and civilian careers, providing opportunities for service leavers transitioning into industry, and recognising the valuable perspectives and experience that military families bring to the workforce.
Sir Rick Thompson, Managing Director – Defence at MTC and a former member of the Armed Forces, welcomed the achievement.
Having served in the Armed Forces, I have seen first-hand the leadership, adaptability and sense of purpose that military service develops in people. These qualities are not only critical to national security; they are increasingly important to the future success of UK industry.
Achieving Gold Award status through the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme is a proud milestone for MTC. For us it reflects a belief that those who have served, continue to serve, and the families who support them bring unique skills, experiences and perspectives that strengthen organisations, drive innovation and help solve some of the most complex challenges facing our nation.
As the boundaries between defence, technology and advanced manufacturing continue to converge, creating meaningful opportunities for veterans, reservists and military families is not simply the right thing to do, it is a strategic investment in the talent, resilience and leadership that will shape the UK's future. Through our work supporting the defence sector, we see every day how critical it is to the UK's security, industrial capability and economic strength. Ensuring we attract and support Armed Forces talent is therefore not only important for MTC, but for the future resilience and competitiveness of the nation. We are proud to play our part in that journey.
Sir Rick Thompson, Managing Director – Defence at MTC
MTC's work with the defence sector spans advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, skills development and capability enhancement, helping organisations across the UK support the Defence Sector, adopt new technologies and strengthen the resilience of national supply chains. As a trusted partner to industry, government and the Armed Forces, MTC plays an important role in supporting the innovation and manufacturing capabilities that underpin both economic prosperity and national security.
Receiving the ERS Gold Award further reinforces MTC's commitment to ensuring the Armed Forces community is represented, valued and supported throughout the organisation. It also demonstrates the centre's belief that investing in Armed Forces talent not only benefits individual organisations but strengthens UK industry as a whole.
As MTC continues to support the UK's manufacturing and defence ambitions, the organisation remains proud to stand alongside the Armed Forces community and champion the skills, experience and leadership they bring to the nation's future success.
A huge thanks to everybody who have been involved in the journey over the past 2 years and your continued support.
