North west aims to be uk's first net zero industrial cluster

The Manufacturing Technology Centre has underlined its net zero credentials by becoming a member of the North West Hydrogen Alliance.

The NWHA brings together some of the UK's most influential organisations developing the North West region as the UK's primary hydrogen economy. It is a key partner of Net Zero North West which is driving industrial decarbonisation in the region. The North West aims to be the UK's first net zero industrial cluster by 2030.

The MTC, which has a major industrial research facility on Liverpool Science Park, aims to support the North West's clean energy transition which aligns with the MTC's own core value of supporting net zero.

Dr Charlie Whitford, director of North West and regions strategic development at the MTC said the centre was delighted to be joining the NWHA to support the hydrogen and clean energy transition, both in the North West and the wider UK.

Supporting the delivery of net zero including hydrogen is core to our vision for future UK manufacturing. Through our Liverpool, Midlands and South East facilities we are engaged to support the next generation of green manufacturing technologies to ensure clean growth and stimulate investment in the UK supply chain to create and safeguard jobs in the North West and wider UK in the nascent hydrogen economy. Hydrogen is critical to meeting net zero emissions targets, providing clean energy for homes, businesses and transport,, and the North West is one of the front runners in the race to decarbonise, backed by both business and politicians in the region.

It is estimated that the decarbonisation of the economy in the North West could lead to an additional 6,000 jobs in the region and add at least £17 billion to the regional economy.
